When converting from PNG to JPG makes sense

JPG is the right format for photos and complex images with thousands of colours, where a small amount of lossy compression cuts file size by 60–90% with no visible quality drop. Converting a 5 MB PNG photo to a 600 KB JPG often gives you the same image at the size of a single email attachment.

What happens to transparency

JPG does not support transparent pixels. When a PNG with transparency is converted, those pixels are filled with a solid background colour — white by default. If you need to keep transparency, leave the image as PNG or convert to WebP instead.
