PNG to BMP Converter — Convert PNG to Bitmap Image Online

The PNG to BMP Converter is a free online tool that transforms PNG images into uncompressed BMP (Bitmap) files. While PNG offers excellent lossless compression and alpha transparency, BMP is a Windows-native format favored by certain legacy software, embedded systems, scientific imaging pipelines, and printing workflows that require raw, uncompressed pixel data without any encoding overhead.

PNG vs BMP — Why Convert?

PNG uses sophisticated lossless compression that produces small files, but every read/write cycle requires decoding. BMP stores raw pixels directly, with no compression at all — the file is bigger, but every pixel is accessible without any decoding step. This makes BMP ideal for high-throughput image processing where you would otherwise spend CPU time decoding PNG. Some industrial cameras, scientific instruments, embedded microcontrollers, and CNC machine controllers only accept BMP. Older Windows applications and certain printing services also require it.

How to Use the Converter

Upload your PNG file by drag-and-drop or click selection. Choose your color depth (24-bit RGB is standard; 32-bit RGBA preserves PNG transparency if your downstream software supports it). Click Convert. The tool decodes the PNG and re-encodes as a clean BMP entirely in your browser — no server upload, so your image stays private. Download the BMP file instantly.

Transparency Note

Standard 24-bit BMP does not support transparency, so transparent PNG pixels become a chosen background color (white by default). For partial transparency, choose 32-bit BMP output, but verify your target software handles 32-bit BMP correctly. For most use cases, 24-bit on a white background is the safest choice.
